Cursor for Roblox: building games with an AI agent in Studio
Search for "Cursor for Roblox" and you will find the same wish repeated: an AI agent that understands the whole project and ships changes with you in the loop. Cursor popularised that experience for general software. Roblox needs the same idea, built around Studio instead of a folder of source files.
What people mean by Cursor-style
When developers say they want Cursor for something, they usually mean:
- Project awareness. The AI knows your codebase, not just the snippet you pasted.
- Agent mode. It plans, edits several files, and runs things.
- Reviewable changes. You see diffs and accept or reject them.
- Fast iteration. A chat beside the work, not a separate browser tab.
- Model choice. Pick a light model for small tasks and a strong one for hard ones.
Why Roblox needs its own version
Roblox games are not plain source trees. A lot of the game is the DataModel: Parts, GUIs, folders, properties, and attributes. Scripts are one part of that world. An agent that only edits files misses the objects, and an agent that cannot press Play misses whether anything works.
So a Cursor equivalent for Roblox has to do four extra things:
- Understand the instance tree and its properties.
- Edit scripts and instances in the live place.
- Build UI as instances, not just code.
- Run the game and read the results.
Kiwari is built that way
Kiwari is a desktop app that connects to Roblox Studio and offers that Cursor-style workflow.
- Chat panel beside Studio. Studio stays your viewport and runtime.
- Diff review. Script edits show up as diffs you approve or reject.
- Agent, Ask, and Plan. Read-only questions, planned builds, or direct changes.
- Subagents. Explore tasks can run in parallel.
- Memory per place. Decisions persist across chats.
- Model picker. Free models up to the strongest, switchable mid project.
- Playtesting. Start Play, send input, read the console, capture the screen.
A day in the workflow
Morning: ask Ask mode how the inventory system is structured. Then switch to Plan mode and draft a trading feature. Approve the plan, review diffs as they come in, and have the agent run the game to confirm the trade works. Save a note about the decision. Start a fresh chat for UI.
Honest differences from Cursor
- Kiwari is a separate app, not a plugin for an existing editor.
- It is Roblox only. It does not try to be a general code editor.
- It currently ships for macOS.
- It relies on Studio being open, since Studio is where the place lives.
What to expect from the models
Good agents are not just about the interface. Model quality decides how well a long task holds together. Kiwari offers capable models on Pro and Pro+, and free models for light work. Free models are less capable, so expect to do more steering.
Pricing
- Free to start, with free models.
